Obituary for Edward Eugene "Gene" Meeks
Edward Eugene “Gene” Meeks, 89, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Gene was born on Monday, August 18, 1930, in Noland, Arkansas, to Arthur and Stella Williams Meeks.
Gene was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, co-worker, neighbor, and friend. He was a long-time member of the Westridge Church of Christ, in Pocahontas.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Stella Williams Meeks; daughter, Debbie Meeks; brothers, Doyle and Darven Meeks; and grandchild, Heath Lewis.
Gene is survived by his wife, Francis Mae Gullett Meeks, of the home; three sons, Randy (Netta) Meeks, Richard (Beth) Meeks, and Greg (Barbara) Meeks, all of Pocahontas; daughter, Gina (Darriel) Woods, of Clover Bend; two brothers, J.C. (Jinks) Meeks, of Doniphan, Missouri, and Larry (Monty) Meeks, of Pocahontas; three sisters, Geneva Leathers, of Pocahontas, Pauline Stewart, of Jonesboro, and Nona (Tom) Hargis, of Bull Shoals; stepson, Dennis Wayne Sims, of Pocahontas; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
All services will be held in the chapel of the Fears Family Funeral Home, on Saturday, August 24, 2019. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Gene’s funeral service will immediately follow, beginning at 4:00 pm; Gerald Fears, officiating. Burial will follow in the Chesser Cemetery.
Full military honors will be presented.
Gene’s grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to respectfully designate Dennis Wayne Sims as an honorary pallbearer.
