Obituary for Faye Smith (Brown)
Faye Brown Smith, 95, passed away on Sunday, January 05, 2020, at the home she shared with her twin sister, Beatrice Brown, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She was born on February 18, 1924, in Duty Township, to David Crocket and Rebecca Kernodle Brown.
Faye finished her schooling at Blytheville Sr. High School, in 1943. While in high school she worked at a beauty school. She became a student there and later received her Cosmetology license. Faye then worked at a munitions factory in St. Louis, Missouri during World War II and afterwards returned to Pocahontas.
Faye married Lehman Junior Smith from the Dalton area and opened Faye's Beauty Shop behind Child's Jewelry Store, which was located on the square. In 1957 the couple moved to Newport and opened Smith's Concrete Products which they operated until their retirement. Faye worked as a beautician in Newport before managing the office of their business.
Faye and Lehman were active members of the Episcopalian Church and the Newport Country Club. Faye was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Group and the Red Hat Society. The couple enjoyed a full life in the Newport area until Lehman died. Faye then moved back to Pocahontas in 2010 to live with her twin, Beatrice "Bea" Brown, in the house that she and Lehman had built in 1956.
Faye and Lehman had no children but shared parenting their niece and nephew, Cassey and Hoyt Brown. The couple shared this parenting responsibility with Bea and Clifton Brown. Cassey B. Crouch's children, Andy and Cara, were their grandchildren.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents, David Crocket and Rebecca Kernodle Brown; husband, Lehman Smith; brothers, Weldon, Elmer, and James H. Brown; sisters, Chartie Brown Johnson, June Brown James, and Mae Brown Miller; nephew, Thomas Brown; and niece, Peggie Brown Casey.
Faye is survived by her twin sister, Beatrice "Bea" Brown; niece, Cassey Crouch and her children; and nephew, Hoyt Brown. Faye is also survived by the following nieces and nephews whom she would have also mothered had they loved closer: Floyd Brown, of Kentucky, Dennis Brown, of Lowell, Arkansas, Dave Miller, Virginia Miller, Debbie Brown, Genevieve Brown Forbes, and Wendy Brown Malinasky, of Michigan.
Faye brought joy and help to many people. She will truly be sorely missed.
Faye chose to donate her remains to UAMS for scientific research; she requested no services.
