Obituary for Gilbert Waymon Pickney
Gilbert Waymon Pickney, 80, of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, in Jonesboro. Gilbert was born on Wednesday, October 12, 1938, in Hoxie, Arkansas, to Ralph E. and Agnes Kildow Pickney.
Gilbert was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, and retired after more than twenty years of service to his country. He then worked as regional manager for Crown convenience stores for twenty years. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, son-in-law, neighbor, co-worker, and friend. Gilbert was also a member of the Portia Church of Christ.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his wife, Ina Fears Pickney; parents, Ralph E. and Agnes Kildow Pickney; grandson, Robert Brumfield; mother-in-law, Lucille Dunlap Fears; and father-in-law, John Herman Fears.
Gilbert is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Brumfield McGough, of Walnut Ridge, Pamela Warren Snow, of Walnut Ridge, and Virginia (Leon) Goff, of Hoxie; four brothers, Delbert (Sammie) Pickney, of Walnut Ridge, Darrell (Faye) Pickney, of Hoxie, Melvin Pickney, of Walnut Ridge, and James (Cindy) Pickney, of Springdale; sister, Verma Joyce Linebaugh, of Ottumwa, Iowa; six grandchildren, Dr. Randall (Christina) Brumfield, of Boise, Idaho, Richard (Stacia) Brumfield, of Powhatan, Virginia, Sarah (Michael) Jimenez, of Gray, Louisiana, Theresa Warren, of Prairieville, Louisiana, Josh Goff, of Conway, and Rachel Goff, of Jonesboro; and ten great grandchildren, Amelia and Abigail Brumfield, of Boise, Idaho, Kyle, Bianca, and Riley Brumfield, of Powhatan, Virginia, Emma, Trey, and Matthew Jimenez, of Gray, Louisiana, and Connor and Cade Weber, of Prairieville, Louisiana.
All services will be held in the chapel of the Fears Family Funeral Home, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Gilbert’s funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, September 15, 2019; Robert Davis and Gerald Fears, officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery, in Walnut Ridge.
Carrying Gilbert to his final earthly resting place will be Dr. Randall Brumfield, Richard Brumfield, Josh Goff, Leon Goff, James Pickney, and Terry McNelly.
The family wishes to respectfully designate Rachel Goff, Delbert Pickney, Melvin Pickney, and Darrell Pickney as honorary pallbearers.
