James Joseph McCabe - Marine, Police Officer, Teamster, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather
On October 22, 2019, James Joseph McCabe, known as Jim to his friends, passed away at home in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 80 due to prostate cancer.
Jim was born on Sunday, February 12, 1939 to Irish immigrants in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, one of five children. Educated in the city, he joined the United States Marine Corps after high school and remained in the reserves until 1964. In 1960, Jim entered the Philadelphia Police Academy and served proudly as a policeman for the city until 1984. Afterwards, he worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer as a truck driver until his retirement in 2002. In 2004, he moved to Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, where he enjoyed the quiet life.
Jim was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, rooting especially for the Eagles, the Flyers, and the Phillies. Kindhearted and generous, he loved animals and was known to bring home stray puppies he had found. Nothing made him happier than seeing his teams win or making his grandchildren and great-grandchildren giggle.
Jim is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lora, as well as his brother, seven children, two stepchildren, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has been chosen as the method of final disposition.
