Obituary for Opal Darline Wolverton (Oakley)
Opal Darline Oakley Wolverton, 86, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020. Opal was born on Wednesday, October 11, 1933, in Warm Springs, Arkansas, to Clyde and Edna Holland Oakley.
Opal was a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, neighbor, and friend. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Catholic Church, in Engelberg, Arkansas.
Opal is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Edna Holland Oakley; sisters, Ruth Oakley, Bessie Oakley, and Bulah Oakley; brothers, Gene Oakley, Everett Oakley, Charles Oakley, Willie Oakley, and Chester Oakley.
Opal is survived by two daughters, Stella (Jim) Steimel, of Pocahontas, and Ruth (Garry) Molencupp, of Pocahontas; two sons, Eldon (Sherry) Griffin, of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Charles (Etta) Griffin, of Pocahontas; twelve grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and sister-in-law, Faye Oakley, of Perry, Oklahoma.
Due to governmental COVID-19 regulations, no more than forty (40) people will be allowed in the church at the same time during visitation. The funeral service will be for the immediate family only.
All services will be held at the St. John’s Catholic Church, in Engelberg, Arkansas, on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. A rosary will begin at 3:00 pm, with Opal’s funeral service immediately following; Reverend Stephen Elser, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Cemetery, in Engelberg.
Joe Steimel, Craig Steimel, Jeremy Molencupp, Josh Molencupp, Johnathan Steimel, and Christopher Griffin are honored to serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to respectfully designate Chad Griffin and Shawn Mansfield as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, Opal's family requests that donations be made to the Bridge of Hope Ministries at P.O. Box 821, Pocahontas, AR 72455.
