Obituary for Sylvia Mae Grooms (Baker)

Sylvia Mae Baker Grooms, 84, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away at her home, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Sylvia was born on Wednesday, April 8, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jeff and Thelma Baker.

Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Thelma Baker; four sons, Doug Grooms, Jerry Roberts, Floyd Roberts, and Michael Roberts; a brother, Kenny Baker; two grandchildren, Raymond Roberts and Kenneth Whatney.

Sylvia leaves behind her husband, Joe Douglas Grooms of the home; Joe (Debbie) Grooms, of Pocahontas, and Bobby Roberts, of Pocahontas; two daughters, Kathy (John) Donovan, of Utah, and Barbara Roberts, of Mississippi; one sister, Barbara Herrera; eight grandchildren, Michael, Casey, AJ, Tiffany, Alec, Nicole, Kerrie and Robbie; twenty great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020, from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, in the chapel of Fears Family Funeral Home. Sylvia’s funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm, at the Maynard Cemetery.

The following individuals are honored to carry Sylvia to her final earthly resting place, Randy Mulligan, Chad Mulligan, Alec Grooms, A.J. Grooms, Aaron Grooms, and Adrian Grooms.

Honorary pallbearers are Kelly Grooms, Troy Grooms, Michael Grooms, Kainen Rogers, and Travis McCain.

Due to COVID-19 directives, issued by the Governor of Arkansas specifically for funeral services, the following will be required in order to attend the visitation and/or funeral service: wearing of a face mask, signing the contact registry, and maintaining all social distancing requirements.
