Obituary for William Lee Benton

William Lee Benton, 73, of Maynard, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. William was born on Sunday, December 29, 1946, in Maynard, to Raymond and Arbutis Francis Benton.

On November 5, 1966, William married his loving wife Frances Louise Secrest. William was a loving husband, father, son, brother, neighbor, and friend.

William served in the United States Army from 1966-1969, during which time he served a year in Vietnam. After his enlistment was finished, William and Frances moved to Rockford, Illinois, where they raised two sons, Terry Wayne and Randy Scott Benton.

William worked eleven years for the Chrysler Corporation. William later spent twenty-four years in management at Sundstrand Aviation before retiring and returning home to Maynard, where he spent the last seventeen years of his life.

William worked at Success Grain and also drove a bus for the Maynard School District. William was a member of the Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, in Maynard.

William is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Arbutis Francis Benton; son Terry Wayne Benton; grandparents, Clarence and Martha Francis; and sister, Mildred Solberg.

William is survived by his wife, Frances Louise Secrest Benton, of the home; son, Randy (Mary) Benton, of Maynard; grandchildren, Brett Allen Garrett, of Pocahontas and Alexa Marie Benton, of Morton, Illinois; brother, Charlie Ray Benton, of Oklahoma; sisters, Wilma Reeves and Caroline (Gary) Wright, both of Cherry Valley, Illinois; uncles, Danny (Glenda) Francis and Pete Francis, both of Maynard; special friend, Steve Cavitt; and many other loved ones, church family and friends.

All services will be held in the chapel of Fears Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. William’s funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 12, 2020; Brother Al Feezor officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Legate Cemetery.

Honored to carry William to his final earthly resting place are Kenny Secrest, Marshall Secrest, David Secrest, Darrell Melton, Jimmy Neece and Jake Foster.

The family respectfully designates Steve Cavitt, Gary Wright, Charley Benton, Donnie Secrest, John Sumner, James Sumner and Sean Foster as honorary pallbearers.
